Greetings from the State Police of Latvia!
We wish you to have a good time in our country and hope your visit will not be spoiled by any unpleasent incidents. When travelling around the country by car you should remember the following:
- when leaving a car, do not forget to lock it and to switch on its alarm system;
- if your car is not equipped with the alarm system, it is recommended to park it only in guarded parking place.
You should be especially careful when crossing the roads. To prevent becoming crime victim remember that you should not:
- demonstrate your valuables obtrusively;
- rely on the fact that customs and traditions in Latvia are the same as in your country;
- attract excessive attention of the locals;
- take lonely walks at night time;
- visit disreputable places.

Which institution to address if a police officer has not behaved in good faith?
If the resident has the suspicions on the exceeding official authority or using official position in bad faith of the State police officials, he/she can submit the report or the application to the Internal Security Bureau of the State Police.
The main task of the Internal Security Bureau is the strengthening of the service discipline and legality within the structures of the State Police. The Bureau is under a direct supervision of the chief of the State Police.
